Divine Appointment

Dream:
I was hanging out with a few old friends when I realized I was running late for my hair appointment with my old hairstylist, Nichelle. I stopped by a gas station to buy some hair extensions before heading to the appointment. I called Nichelle to ask what brand of hair I should buy, but as I looked around the store, I couldn’t find the brand she recommended. At this point, I was already about 20 minutes late, and I could tell she was a bit frustrated. So, I decided to cancel the appointment while I was on the phone with her. I asked her how much I owed for not showing up, expecting it to be $50.
Interpretation:
Sometimes, the people you associate with can hinder you from reaching your divine appointment. According to an online search, the name Nichelle means “Victory” and “The Divine.” In the dream, my appointment wasn’t canceled; I canceled it due to my inability to recognize its significance. I had a meeting with The Divine, and I forfeited that opportunity. Our lack of understanding of God's expectations for us can lead us down the wrong paths in life, keeping us stuck in unfruitful relationships or circumstances that damage our destinies.
Notice the emphasis on the word forfeit. Though frustrated with my ignorance, still The Divine waited for me. However, I ultimately made a choice that cost me dearly. Carnally speaking, the cost was manageable—just $50, which seemed trivial. But spiritually, it cost me everything.
Let’s dive deeper…
50 = The Holy Spirit
In the bible, as prophesied, 50 days after passover, The Holy Spirit was given to the apostles. This day is referred to as the Day of Pentecost (See Acts 2:1-4). Due to this biblical event, we can infer that there’s significance behind the number 50. In order to fully understand this dream, we must tap into God’s biblical mathematical lingo as some may say.
Just as 50 days led to the receiving of the Holy Spirit, the forgoing of the appointment in the dream, which resulted in a loss of $50, symbolically emphasizes the loss of the Holy Spirit.
Trinity = The Father, Son, & Holy Spirit
We cannot have one without the other. If you forfeit one, you forfeit all, as they are all different manifestations of a single entity.
Ultimately, the cost was not simply $50; it was, in fact, the Spirit of God, given through our acceptance of Jesus as the Son of God.
This dream speaks to our lives in the land of the living as well as our lives after physical death.
I’m reminded of an old hymn we used to sing in my childhood church:
“Oh what peace we often forfeit
Oh what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”
We miss out on so much when we’re out of relationship with Christ. God wants to give us life, and life more abundantly here in the land of the living, and in life after physical death, but daily we forfeit all He has for us simply because we do not choose Him.
Let’s go a little further…
In the dream, I went to a gas station in search of hair. It's quite unlikely that anyone would find hair for sale at a gas station. This symbolizes that I was looking in all the wrong places for what I truly needed to prepare for my divine appointment: a relationship with Jesus Christ. The Word of God tells us that no one can get to the Father except through Christ (see John 14:6). I searched but could not find what was necessary, and because of this, I could not encounter The Divine. Many people today are seeking encounters with God, yet they are turning to methods of divination to achieve this, which is not of God (see Deuteronomy 18:10-11). If you want to know God, you must first accept His Son.
How do we prepare?
We follow Jesus Christ, believe that He is the Son of God, and was sent to this earth to die for our sins. We believe He left us the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort us. We believe that He rose again and now lives, sitting at the right hand of the Father, advocating for us as His beloved brothers and sisters. We wholeheartedly believe in this! We accept what has been done for us and strive to live according to God’s expectations of us as followers of Christ (obedience). It's important to understand that we will fall short, that’s why Christ had to die for us because we’ll never have it all together. However, we should keep trying our best and not lose hope.
I began this entry referring to some of the relationships we keep as the distractions that keep us from communing with God, but it goes beyond this. What’s keeping you from building and maintaining an everlasting relationship with God? What’s keeping you from being the most like Christ you can be? Take these questions to God in prayer, especially if you're feeling uncertain. Once you identify the obstacles, be prepared to take any necessary steps to restore your relationship with The Divine, as that should be your top priority.
