An Open Door Pt.1

Symbolizations for this entry (aids in understanding):

An open door = A door that leads to the promises of God

When God asks something of you and fear arises, pray that you decrease so that He may increase.

Prayer:

“Lord, all of you and none of me, help me to decrease so that you may increase and receive all the glory. In Jesus name, Amen!”

The other day God asked me to start teaching Sunday School, and this was not the first time He’s asked.  Just a few months ago, though I was aware that there’d come a time where I’d have to teach, I declared I wasn’t yet ready, and said, “no”, when God placed it on my heart to do so. God tried me again last week, and unlike before, I immediately said, “yes”.

What changed:

I remembered a dream God sent me about 2 years ago. There was a door that led to a new dimension almost, it shined so bright, and through the door was everything I’ve ever prayed for. As I attempted to walk through the door, my shirt got caught on a post right before entering. I was so close that the light from God's promises shined on me from within the door, but still I could not walk in because my shirt was caught on the post. I pulled and pulled, and still I could not get free. Obviously, all I had to do was lift my shirt from the post and walk in, I knew what to do, I just didn’t do it. The Holy Spirit spoke in that moment and said, “That’s your fear holding you back”.  See it was all so simple, I knew what to do to get free, but I didn’t. Here’s what I got from this part: Sometimes the very things we want most scares us the most, but in order to obtain those things, we can’t bring fear with us. Also, sometimes to get to your next, God will ask that you step out in faith and trust that He’s got you. The overall significance of this dream was to get me to understand that I can’t take fear where I’m going, and it’s the same for many of you. Fear causes stagnation, delay, and or a forfeit of God’s promises to you.

I’m learning that though God did not give us the spirit of fear, it’s okay to be afraid, it’s inevitable, but I believe the significance of God reminding us that fear is not of Him, is so that when we experience fear we won’t let it control us, but instead allow the spirit of God to drown out fear and increase over the nature of man.

2 Timothy 1:7:

7) “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
