Believe NOT Every Spirit
I believe God speaks to us in many different ways, but I’ve also learned that many of His people have begun to idolize some of the ways of which we believe we are hearing from God. I want to start by saying, if your “means of revelation” leads you away from the word or presence of God, it is NOT from God. Also, if the “revelation” does not mirror the character or word of God, it is NOT from God. And lastly, if it in anyway misconstrues the word of God, it is NOT from God. I also want you to know that if a “revelation” highlights the presence of God during a particular moment (only), something is very wrong! Remember, God is ALWAYS near, if you’re near to Him, James 4:8 says, “ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…”, God will not withdraw His presence from you because you decided to go to the gym or work. Once you devote your life to Him, He will always be with you; you are never alone.
As I began this journey of sharing messages from God, I watched others embark on the same journey, and in doing so, I felt I knew exactly how to go about this ministry, until the Lord pulled me away from watching/learning from these individuals. God began to highlight to me where they missed the mark, and what was NOT of Him. I found that a few of them knew each other and were learning from each other, so their messages began to merge as well as their methods of receiving “revelation from God”. I found myself going down the same path until the Lord corrected me by silencing me and starting me down the righteous path. See, I often pray that the Lord does not elevate my ministry until He sees me fit to steward well over it, until I am in a place where I CANNOT and WILL NOT lead His people astray.
I’ve learned that the enemy likes to implant his lies in the midst of truth. See, I believe many of these individuals I used to watch to be true believers, but I also believe that somewhere along the way they were given false information. Within that world of ministry, there seems to be a passing along of certain ways of receiving “revelation from God”, which leads to the idolization of the sources used. So instead of seeking God and His word, people are seeking a specific online source. As I began to follow their ways, the word of God never specifically convicted me on my new methods of receiving “revelation from God”, but instead it was the Holy Spirit who allowed me to feel uncomfortable, like something was wrong.
Because someone says something is of God, and you believe that individual to be of God, yet you find that what they believe to be of God, is in fact NOT of God, it’s time to take that person to God. I am not one to call anyone a false prophet unless God tells me Himself that someone is, but I do believe when we give the enemy wiggle room in our lives, it opens doors for us to be led astray, and in turn lead others astray without knowing.
Take everything, and everyone back to God. If you feel discomfort in regards to how you receive “revelation from God”, or how another who has given you a word received their “revelation from God”, take the “revelation” and the person to God, and ask Him to either confirm or deny.
The other day I had a dream of which was in correlation with a lot of what God has been preparing me for lately, to be quite honest it was desirable, but within the dream something felt off, much of it did not mirror the character of God, so I gave it to God, and immediately He prompted me to reject it, though it was appealing to my flesh.
When I say take everything to God, I mean it! Including me and my ministry. I take everyone to God, and I’m learning to take every “revelation” to God as well. Remember, our enemy lurks around looking for a way into our lives so that he may steal, kill and destroy. Beware!
Scripture to Reflect on:
John 10:10:
10) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
2 Corithians 2:11:
11)…in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
1 John 4:
4) Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.
