What’s The Rush?

Today, as I listened to Lo-fi music I found that it internally slowed me down. Not that I was doing a lot, but usually my mind is going 100 mph even if I’m just laying down. I don't know what it was about the music, but as soon as begun listening, the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to just how fast I’d been running ever since I started this journey with Christ. It’s not that Christ has been in a rush, it’s that I felt that in order to reach all that God has for me, I had to run as fast as I can, and keep on running, as if arriving were by my works, and not His grace. Though admirable, even this can lead one to a devastating end.

If our steps are indeed ordered by the Lord, and we truly trust in God’s timing for everything, why are we always in one big rush? I now realize that rushing is an indicator that our faith is lacking. There’s a set time for everything, and there’s nothing we can do to expedite the process. Majority of the time, we find ourselves drained, and it is no one else’s fault but our own. We tend to do, do, do, never having enough faith in God to sit back and watch Him work. We must possess the mindset that it is already done, everything we need is in Christ, and He is the epitome of completion.

I’m learning that every time I say, “Lord your will be done”, that too applies to every step I take, and every move I make. If God is calling you to slow down, that does not mean you will be delayed in anyway. It is in our obedience that we are propelled forward, therefore, heeding any direction from God keeps you in position.

P.S -

I’m currently watching the television series “The Chosen” which is about the story of Jesus and His disciples. Though it is only a reenactment of what actually happened during that time, still I feel as if the Holy Spirit would like for us to learn an important lesson from the show. In the show, Jesus never seemed to be in a rush to leave or go anywhere. He understood that wherever He found Himself at any particular time, was exactly where He was meant to be, and when He was meant to be there because His steps were ordered. One of His disciples asked Him if they could make a stop while they journeyed to their next destination, but he (the disciple) was a bit reluctant in asking because he didn’t want to throw Jesus off His course, or delay their arrival to their next destination, but to his surprise, without hesitation, Jesus replied, “Of course!”. I’m just paraphrasing here, but the point is that Jesus did not think twice about making the stop. Once they arrived at the stop, it turned out that there was another man there Jesus intended on making His newest disciple, but had Jesus been in a rush, He would’ve missed that perfect time to add to His group of followers. Though he stopped as He journeyed to His next destination, He was exactly where He was meant to be for the enactment of God’s will.

I heard someone say online the other day, whenever you feel the need to rush, intentionally slow down. I’m taking that advice into this new year.

Scripture to reflect on:

Psalm 37:23

“23) The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1

1) There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heaven”
