Give Thanks
Thankfulness is a perspective shifter. It's coming into agreement with who God has been and will always be in your life—a provider. Instead of meditating on what IS NOT, you should instead meditate on what IS, because God has allowed it to be so.
I’ve learned that we should enter into God’s presence with thankfulness, as if thankfulness is the key to a locked door with the presence of God on the other side. I've learned that we should enter God's presence with thankfulness, as if thankfulness is the key to a locked door leading to His presence.
I have started my prayers by thanking God for all the blessings in my life, both those I am aware of and those I am not. After giving thanks, I repent for any thoughts and actions—known or unknown—that were not pleasing to Him, then I ask Him to shine a light on the unknown, so that I may turn away in the future. Lastly, I present my requests to Him.
I have found that my intentionality behind showing gratitude for what God has already done, grants me a sense of peace regarding the requests I plan to make. Often, we seek God because we’re burdened by a need or a desire, but in not only recognizing, but acknowledging what He’s already done, you can rest assured knowing that just as He’s done it before, He’d make a way again, because He’s the same God today as He was yesterday.
Scripture to reflect on:
Psalms 100:4
4) “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”
Philippians 4:6-7
6) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7) And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
18) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Hebrew 13:8
8) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
