Journey > Destination

Most times we know not what we ask for. We spend days, weeks, months, or maybe even years praying for God to open specific doors in our lives completely unaware of the weight that comes with it. I want you to know that if God opened the door for you, He not only believed that you were strong enough to walk through (because that was no small feat), He also believes that you’re strong enough to remain and succeed where He’s allowed you to enter. You may be feeling the weight of the blessing, but you’re strong enough to carry it. You’re built different! The Holy Spirit resides in you and is guiding your every footstep, therefore, you’re exactly where you’re meant to be and when you’re meant to be there. God chose you because He trusts that through Him you will make it through; you WILL be alright. He didn’t lead you this far just to leave you.

In moments where our emotions contradict what we know to be true, it’s important that we remain faithful in prayer. Pray that God creates within you a content heart regarding His will and His way for your life. Pray that no matter how things may seem, you always remember that you serve a promise keeping God Who has plans to prosper you. Pray that your emotions become in alignment with the flow of the Holy Spirit of which is in alignment with God’s will for your life.

I’m learning that it’s really about the journey, over the destination. We focus on the arrival, while God focuses on our transformation on our way to the destination. So, though God is ultimately saying, “yes”, to our eventual arrival, He works in the, “not yet”. It’s in the, “not yet”, that we experience true transformation. In the midst of the wait, it’s important that we do not mistake God’s, “not yet”, for denial. This is why we pray to not only physically be in alignment with God’s will and way for our lives, but spiritually and mentally as well. See, the human part of us will allow our emotions, of which are derived from deferred hope, to take the wheel in our lives, but when we pray to be in alignment with God’s will and way for our lives in EVERY way, we avoid being led astray by a deceitful heart.

My go to verse over the past few month has been: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” -Romans 12:12

Food for thought:

Maybe ultimately in God’s eyes there’s only one destination. The destinations we seek are more so physical while the destination that concerns God is spiritual. Maybe the true destination is for us to arrive at a place where we’ve become the most like Jesus we can be. Maybe the true destination is for us to arrive at a place where we’ve become the most like Jesus Christ we can be. Maybe the open door before us leads to our salvation, and the changes we undergo as we attempt to be more like Christ everyday, is the journey we’ll forever be on until the day we’re gone. Maybe our desire to reach physical goals is what God uses to pull us closer to His spiritual goals for us. This is why it’s key that we keep our eyes on Jesus as we journey to our physical destinations. See, the pruning that takes place on the way is not only preparing us for the arrival of our physical blessings and desires, but most importantly it’s bringing us closer to our spiritual destination each and every day.

Additional scripture to reflect on:

12) Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

Jeremiah 17:9

9) The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

Psalms 37:23-24

23) The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. 24) Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.
